Windtalkers is delayed again

As you already know Windtalkers is delayed again. It was supposed to be released in November 9th, couple months ago. Now the new release date is set to June 14th 2002. Original plans were to release it last summer, 2001, but now we have another six months wait. Official reasoning for the delay is recent World Trade Center tragedy and because of that people may not be in the mood for seeing war movies. 

Producer Terence Chang: "There's so much uncertainty right now and we don't want to spend a lot of money on promoting the film"

"We feel certain this great film will be enjoyed by the broadest possible audience during the strong summer play period," Robert Levin, president of worldwide theatrical marketing and distribution.

The Killer, new DVD release in France

TF1 Video is about to release some Hong Kong movies on DVD in France. John Woo's The Killer was released in October 17. The Killer looks nice package with two different versions of the film. First DVD includes official release approved by John Woo. This version was transferred from original negatives and created nice looking anamorphic picture. Film has original Cantonese soundtrack with alternate French dubbing. But unfortunately there is no English subtitles in this version. Actually if you choose to listen original Cantonese version you must tolerate French subtitles which can't be turned off. Of course if you can read French and don't quite understand spoken Cantonese there is no real problem but for the rest of us lacking English subtitles is a real problem. First DVD also includes 

Second disc contains longer Taiwanese version of the film in anamorphic format. Picture quality is not as good as in shorter version but it is surprisingly good anyway. This is probably the best release currently available if we are talking about longer Taiwanese version. As basically all Taiwanese releases it is spoken in Mandarin and does not include original Cantonese dialogue option. It has French subtitles but you can turn off these subtitles and then you find bilingual subtitles (English and Chinese) burned in subtitles which can't be turned off. You should know that this version is not director's cut. Woo appreciates shorter version better but regardless it is interesting to see more, some deleted scenes which were never used. This is not only longer version but it was edited quite differently. DVD is available from Amazon.fr. Site is in French only but ordering process is similar to US and UK versions of Amazon.

We are still working with site update and there's so much what needs to be done. Here is something to check out and to tell you new site will be up some day at new url: johnwoo.redonwhite.com. Most of the material from old site will be added here but all text will be checked and some parts rewritten. But most of the multimedia files won't be added here. I will add some of those pictures, photographs here but eventually I will try to get some new and hopefully better pictures. Some other multimedia files will be added here but video and audio collection as it was is now gone. I don't have required disc space on any server for them.
