HARD BOILED (1992)
From John Woo, the director of Hard Target and The Killer,
Hard Boiled is a high-octane rollercoaster ride through a violent Hong Kong of
1997 where violence is so rife that only a 'super cop' will have any effect at
all. Meet Inspector Yuen, nicnamed 'Tequila' (Chow Yun Fat) a cop who shoots
from both ships, never reloads... and never misses. A tough guy with a soft spot
and infinite charm Tequila is the only man for the job of cleaning up the city
and when his partner is killed in a spectacular tea-house massacre he decides to
take the investigation into his own lethal hands. During the course of the
investigation Tequila comes face to face with Tony (Tony Leung -The Lover)
an assassin with a deadly secret...
With a body count well into three figures, more firepower than
you can shake an Uzi at and imagenatelively realised adrenaline-pumping action
sequences to turn Hollywood action directors green with envy, This is Woo's
finest and most outrageous flick to date and is one action-packed spectacle you
won't forget! The film's Chinese title -literally "Hot-Handed God of Cops"
- is a consious play on the Chinese release title of Don Siegel's 'Dirty Harry'.
