FROM RICHES TO RAGS (1979) Woo's favorite of his comedies. A man (Ricky Hui) wins the
lottery, and on the same day, finds out the has only six months to live. When
there is just a little time to live he spends his money and makes some romance
with his old friend. After that he hires an inept hitman (Richard Ng) to kill
him, but then he'll change his mind and wants to live instead because he finds
out he's not sick at all. Chaos ensues, rapidly, loudly, and often. John Woo
filmed it exactly the way he wanted, using close ups. Some reviewers noted the films parallels to Michael Cimino's The Deer Hunter and Woo's upcoming Bullet in the Head in some scenes.
