Mega Star DVD box sets
Mega-Star has released three numbered edition boxed sets of their recent
DVD releases. Each is a numbered edition of 500. The "Jackie
Chan" box has the first three Police Story movies, the "Chow Yun Fat"
box has the three "Better Tomorrow" films, the last box is the three
Chinese Ghost Story films.
These are selling at up to US$100 in HK For the premium, all
you get is a fancy box and two postcards. The movies are in the box in
their regular packaging. So it's likely for diehard collectors only ...

Hard Target LD with DTS sound
Hard Target has been re-released on LD with DTS 6 channel, full digital
sound. But otherwise it is R-rated cut to pieces version. Also DVD version is
announced (June 30th) and it is more than likely to have DTS digital sound. I
only hope they would make a Dolby Digital version as well.?
To find Hong Kong films in US and Canada
Where to
find HK movies in US & Canada. This is a really great listing made by
John R. Meixner. You can select the state in US or Canadian province you are
in and get the listing. This site should serve well all U.S. and Canadian
residents.
Another listing is where to find
Rental Hong Kong films. It is located on new Jackie Chan site, The
Jackie Chan Plaza But I think you should be able to find John Woo films
too using this list.
Woo and Chow Yun-Fat
KING'S RANSOM is supposedly the vehicle for Woo and Chow but it is shelved
when both of them couldn't find an opening in their schedules. Instead, Woo is
in the pre-production of MISSION IMPOSSIBLE 2 with Tommy Boy and Chow is
slated to star in ANNA AND THE KING (the most well-known musical version is
Roger-Hammerstein's THE KING AND I with Yul Brynner).
Bullet in the Web - the John Woo Site
running
The Ultimate John Woo site Bullet in the
Web is now open. You really should check it out. Originally it was known
as John Woo Central and it was off-line for a moment but now it is back in
business with real cool URL: www.johnwoo.com
Tarantino bashed Chow Yun-fat
In a phone conversation with Howard Stern on The
Howard Stern Show on Thursday, May 7, 1998, Quentin Tarantino
criticized Chow Yun-Fat in The
Replacement Killers about his acting and his use of English.
Listen this soundfile and hear yourself what mr. Tarantino really said, he
calls himself a real Chow Yun-Fat fan. Tarantino
bashes Chow Yun-Fat (0:48.8, 525.8k)

John Woo and Terence Chan formed Lion Rock
John Woo and his longtime producer friend Terence Chang recently formed a
new production company called Lion Rock.
Alison Dakota Gee:
Homesick in
Hollywood Article in Asiaweek
April 24th 1998
Woo and partner Terence Chang named their new Hollywood production company,
Lion Rock, after the famous stone formation that sits on Hong Kong's Kowloon
side. "The rock is solid and humble," says Woo, "a good symbol
for our company." The name will remind the partners of where they learned
their craft. The name will remind them of the tiny, frenetic island across the
Pacific. That place called Hong Kong, where they came from.

Paramount Bows To DVD
Finally Paramount has officially announced that they will begin to support
DVD. They still have not scheluded any movies but they say they are going ti
release DVDs at the same time with VHS releases. Titanic could easily be one
of their first DVD releases. And now we can really hope for DVD release of
Face/Off. Maybe before end of this year? Paramount

Mission Impossible? Impossible mission?
Sources say he has all but committed to making the sequel to the hit 1996
high-tech spy thriller "Mission: Impossible." Cruise and his
producing partner, Paula Wagner, would produce the sequel for Paramount
Pictures, but as yet he has not signed off on the script. Sources say Cruise
currently is in negotiations with John Woo to direct the movie, which would
begin no later than this fall. News
